   This is when a player increases the size of his bet, forcing the rest of the players to match that amount if they wish to continue playing the hand. A player who checks may raise after another player has bet. This increase must meet certain specifications, depending on the game, to reopen the betting and count toward a limit on the number of raises allowed.
