Baccarat
The name of the game. Also known as ‘Punto Banco’. Baccarat means ‘zero’ in Italian, and refers to a hand of zero value (the worst hand possible).

Banco
Spanish for ‘banker’ or ‘bank’. Also known as a ‘shooter’.
Banker
One of two hands formed during a round of play and denoted in a box where players may wager on the banker's hand.
Box
Those three areas marked on the layout and identified by a single number where wagers may be placed on the player, the banker or tie.
Carte
The French equivalent of ‘hit’ in blackjack. Used to request another card from the dealer (if you have a total of seven or less).
Cheval
A type of bet made by two players. The bet is won when both players win, and lost when both players lose. If one player wins and the other loses, this is known as a ‘stand-off’.
Coloured Pair
This is a pair comprised of either two red cards of different suits, or two black cards of different suits.
Commission
This is similar to a Vig. This is the amount deducted from a winning hand and given to the House. Normally it's 5%. In Pai-Gow, this occurs on any winning hand, while in Baccarat, it only occurs when a Banker bet wins.
Coup
A French term that refers to a round of play in baccarat.
Dragon Bonus Wager
An optional, additional wager which may be made by a player (or his/her nominee).
Initial Deal
The dealing of the first 4 cards in a round of play, 2 each to the Player's Hand and the Banker's Hand.
La Grande
The best hand in baccarat – a natural 9. Also known as ‘The Big One’.
Mixed Pair
When a pair is comprised of one red card and one black card.
Natural
A hand with, on the initial 2 cards dealt to the hand, a point count of 8 or 9.
Perfect Pair
An optional, additional wager which may be made by a player.This side bet is paid if there is a pair comprised of cards of the same suit
Petite
La Petite is a natural baccarat that totals eight. Also known as ‘The Little One’.
Player
There are two outcomes that the gambler can chose to back if they want to win a hand and Player is one of those designations. Both the Player and the Banker have no association with the house or the gambler.
Punto
An option the player can bet on in Baccarat. This is Spanish for "Player".
Punto Banco
The most popular modern form of baccarat, where the ‘punto’ bets on whether the player or banker hand wins. Developed in Argentina in the 1940s.
